Buying A New Sewing Machine - Giving You The Power

May 5th, 2009

Congratulations on deciding to buy a new sewing machine, it is a decision that should give you many hours of sewing pleasure and should be a decision you are comfortable and happy that you have made. Unfortunately quite often the shopping experience is not one that people have enjoyed, they sometimes feel that they have been pressured by sales people in to making decisions before they are ready to do so, they feel they have been persuaded into spending more than they planned to, they end up with a sewing machine that is not suitable for their requirements. If any of this sounds familiar then please read on as we aim to help you with some easy to follow tips that will put you back in charge of the buying process.
Knowing what you want, if you do not need a sewing machine that has 50 different features then do not buy one with all the bells and whistles. Quite often when you go in to a shop the sales person will be keen to sell you a particular machine, this might be the most expensive one they have or just the one with the best commission for the store, if you do not want that model or brand tell them. Before you go to the store I would create a list of the features I need my sewing machine to have, armed with this list I am able to tell the sales person what I want and I can check what he is showing me with my list of requirements and if they do not match then tell him he is not showing you what you want to buy.
Knowing what you do not want, this might sound a little strange, but if you are not happy with something on your current sewing machine, if the same thing keeps going wrong for example or if one part breaks more often than you feel it should, then tell the sales person this, you obviously do not want to have the same problems with your new machine that you had with your old one.
Test drive the sewing machine, when you have found a sewing machine that you are interested in ask the sales rep for a demonstration, please ask questions if you do not understand something they do or say as often the sales reps have a set demo and patter to go with it and this can seem a lot sleeker than it really is. You must also ask to test the sewing machine for yourself, take a swatch of your own fabric with you as an old trick amongst sales reps is to use stiff material that is much easier for some aspects of sewing and will therefore give you a false sense of confidence. Using your own swatches also means that you can carry it from machine to machine as well as shop to shop and get a true comparison between the different sewing machines on offer.
Please look out for part two of this series as we continue to put you in the driving seat when you go to purchase your new sewing machine.

Buying A Home Theater Within Your Means

May 5th, 2009

When planning and purchasing a home theater you may find that in addition to a wide range of choices you are also faced with an extreme and vast array of pricing options for your home theater needs. Whether you are seeking a system that is simply a good means of watching your favorite sporting event on any given Sunday or you are hoping to find a home theater system that will be the envy of the neighborhood there are many systems available within many budget ranges that will accomplish both of those goals if you carefully plan the system you will ultimately purchase.
You should establish a budget before going shopping for your home theater system and buy a system that suits both the requirements you wish to have filled and your means with which to pay. The good news is that there are some home theater packages that will suit most budgets; even the tightest and you can always find the one system you like and watch closely to see if it goes on sale.
The point is that there really are all kinds of home theater systems on the market and they vary greatly in price, quality, and scope. Be sure you know exactly what you are getting when your purchase a home theater system, especially if you are buying one of the many home theater in a box kits that are on the market today. You may not be getting everything you believe you are getting and it pays to know what you need in regards to what you currently have.
Common components you will find in a home theater system kit include the following: a receiver, speakers, and a DVD or DVR. Most kits currently on the market do not include televisions and some kits being advertised as home theater kits are merely boxes of speakers. This is why you need to make sure that you read carefully and know exactly what is included in the 'kit' you are paying for.
If you need a new television in order for your home theater to be worth anything to you that might be the starting point for your home theater system upon which you can build later. If you have a decent television that is HD ready then you are prepared to start searching for an excellent HD home theater. If your television isn't HD ready, it would be a waste of money to make the investment in HD equipment at today's inflated prices that will not be of immediate use to you. If HD is important, then you should really begin by purchasing an HD television and not build your home theater until you have that key component in place.
On the other hand, if HD isn't important to you at the moment or you would prefer to wait until lower prices prevail, it is a sound decision to go ahead and purchase a home theater that has the best technology you are capable of utilizing at the moment. You can actually get pretty good deals on what is considered yesterday's technology (which can be just that recent in today's electronics market) and for many that is definitely the way to go when buying a home theater system. You can get the best of yesterday's technology for a fraction of the cost of many lower quality items that are on the market today.
The biggest thing to remember when comparing features is to know what is important to you in a home theater system and buy with that knowledge. It doesn't make sense to make this sort of investment if you are going to find that you cannot live with the limitations of your technology 6 months from now. For this reason, only you can decide what is and isn't an acceptable price for you to pay for your home theater system as well as what level of technology for which you are willing to settle.

Buying A Digital Camera: A Beginner’s Guide

May 5th, 2009

For any beginner photographer or a first time buyer of digital camera, choosing and buying a digital camera can become a task. There is so much that goes in to buying a digital camera for the first time. But you need not worry about that. For I provide you a step-by-step camera buying guide here:
Research: Talk to people
As a beginner you should keep certain things in your mind. First of all you should ask yourself, what are the features you need, what type of photos you are going to click with your new digital camera. There are a lot of features in a digital camera such as modes, zooms, lenses, flash, focus, viewfinder, resolution and timer. Decide which features you want in your camera. You can talk to your family and friends and other digital camera features to know their opinions on various camera features. This will help you jot down the basic expectations you owe from your new camera.
Price factor
Set a realistic budget for your first camera and look for cameras in that price range only. Prices of digital cameras have fallen greatly over the years. Still, a digital camera purchase is considered expensive to its 35mm counterpart's purchase.
Next, gain a good knowledge about the models of cameras you are considering buying. Don't be a fool by going all by your friend's choice. Be a proud owner of a digital camera that suits your needs rather than someone else's.
Satisfy your needs
As a beginner you should look for models that are easy to use and operate. Do not go for flashy models. They may not satisfy your needs.
Now decide on your printing needs. If most of your photos will be uploaded to a website or emailed, you will not need a lot of mega pixels in your camera. But if you are planning to make a lot of larger prints, you need a camera with a lot of mega pixels.
By narrowing down your options as per the needed camera features, you can decide which camera is best suited to you. Visit the stores and handle the devices personally. You should shop around for the best price. Pick up additional warranty if any. Take some great pictures.
Below are some of the great cameras for you:
1.Nikon coolpix 4100: It is a one easy to use camera. The camera is imaging wonder with 4.2 mega pixels and 3x optical zoom features to it.
2.Kodak Easyshare cx7330: This is a decent point and shoot camera that comes with 3.1 mega pixels and a combined 10x zoom features. The camera does not have much fancy features. But for a beginner, the camera is perhaps the best pick.
3.Canon Powershoot S410: This power shot camera from Canon is a four mega pixel camera. The camera is very stylish to operate and indeed offer all the basic functions of an average camera.
I am sure buying a digital camera is no longer a task for you.

Buying A Bass Guitar - Parts Of A Bass Guitar You Should Know About

May 5th, 2009

Buying a Bass Guitar - Parts of a Bass Guitar You Should Know About
So you feel that you are ready for buying a bass guitar, but your not quite sure where to start? Well before you just walk into a guitar store and buy the first bass guitar they give you, it would be wise to gather up a little knowledge about the different variations you will likely encounter.
Here are some important terms and features that would be a good idea to get familiar with before you choose your first bass.
Scale Length
The scale length is measured in inches and refers to to vibrating length of the bass strings. The longer the neck is on the bass will mean that the scale length will be longer. A bassist with small hands will want to look for a smaller scale, because large scale bass guitars have more distance between each fret, and this will make it difficult for them to stretch their fret hand far enough.
Most Common Scale Lengths For Electric Bass
Xtra Long: 35+ in.
Long (Standard): 34 in.
Medium: 32 in.
Short: 30 in.
Check The Nut Width
The nut is usually a whit colored plastic component with grooves that guide the strings to the tunning pegs. The nut width is simply the width of the neck at the nut. Again, a wider nut will only give the small hand people a disadvantage.
Four String, Five String...?
The very first bass was a four string bass and for many decades, it stayed that way. Today, a bass guitar is available in 4, 5, 6, all the way to 12 string. The four and five string bass are the two most common configurations, but it will depend on what style of music you play. The difference between the four and five string bass is that the five string adds a lower string. Here are the tuning for each:
Four String Tuning:
E(top)-A-D-G(bottom)
Five String Tuning:
B(top)-E-A-D-G(bottom)

Butterfly Tattoos - How To Find The Perfect Design

May 5th, 2009

Butterfly tattoos are growing in popularity all the time and are one of the designs most commonly requested by women. And it's not surprising. Butterflies are beautiful to look at and these designs carry a rich symbolism due to the short yet amazing life of these creatures. And due to the vast range of colors and species available, there's no reason why your tattoo shouldn't be absolutely unique to you.
There are almost 25,000 different types of butterfly and they range in size from an eighth of an inch across to a massive twelve inches in diameter. And then of course there's the color to consider. Many butterflies display the most beautiful range of bright and vibrant colors imaginable.
There are four main stages in the life of this amazing creature. They begin life as an egg, which turns into a caterpillar. At this stage (the pupa stage) they make a chrysalis or cocoon from which they emerge as an adult butterfly.
It's this transformation from an unspectacular caterpillar into a graceful and glorious butterfly that inspired the mythical Greek character called Psych who had the wings of a butterfly. Psych is the Greek word for both butterfly and the soul, hence the deep symbolic meaning of the butterfly tattoo. Many ancient people believed that the amazing transformation of the butterfly was similar to the soul's journey from an earthly body to a spiritual body.
However, despite this long chain of transformations, the final part of their lifespan (as an adult butterfly once it emerges from the pupa state) lasts only two weeks. This brief yet colorful contribution to life has been taken to represent the fragile nature of human life. Perhaps that's part of the appeal of butterfly tattoos.
But due to the vast number of choices available it can be incredibly difficult to find the right butterfly tattoo design. It's often said that finding the right design is as much an art in itself as the actual creation of the tattoo. So here are a few things to bear in mind when searching for your butterfly tattoo.
1) Start by working out why you want this tattoo. What do you want it to represent? This knowledge will help to influence and shape the look of the tattoo when it comes to selecting a final design.
2) Work out what type of butterfly design you want. What type of butterfly? What colors? What size? What style? Where will it be located on your body? Once you have a rough idea of what you want, you'll find it much easier to narrow down your options.
3) Start looking through tattoo designs and pick out a few that you like best. At this stage you don't have to like the whole design. Just take a note of all the designs that contain an element or a style that you like. These ideas will all contribute to settling on the final tattoo design. The internet is a great tool to help find tattoo designs. It allows you to look at a large number of designs and pictures of completed tattoos in a short space of time. This will help you to narrow down that sort of thing that you want. You may even be able to find a reputable tattoo artist if you don't already have one.
4) If you can't find a design that's exactly what you want, try sketching a picture of the type of design that you want. And if your artwork isn't that good, do your best and then get an artist or an artistic friend to draw what you describe. These drawings will be useful later on, because even if you find a design that you like, you can use your own drawings to add your own unique touch to the final design.
And finally, don't proceed with your butterfly tattoo until you're absolutely 100% sure that you've found the right design, because it's going to be with you for a long time.

Butterfly Download Network Review - Butterflydownloadnetwork.com - Good Or Bad?

May 5th, 2009

I decided to write this Butterfly Download Network review after having a chance to see what the site has to offer. What makes it different from other download services? Will you get in trouble for downloading from the network? In this short review I seek to answer these questions and more as I give you an overview of what you can realistically expect to get out of a membership with Butterfly Download Network. From there, all you have to do is decide whether or not you want to join the service!
As I started to investigate the Butterfly Download Network, the first thing I noticed was how well organized the site was. To the left of the screen, there were links to the top 20 movie, TV show, music, game and iPod downloads. It's a small but useful thing, as sometimes there are things you want to download but might not think to on your own. By seeing what other people are downloading, you can expand your horizons or simply remember favorites you forgot to pick up.
Butterfly Download Network is probably the easiest to use of all of the downloading sites of its ilk. There are never any limits on the amount of things you download or the content you search for, meaning you can get as many G-rated downloads as you can R. The 100 percent legal service gives you all of the free movie download software you'll ever need, as well as DVD copy software, movie players and CD burning software. If all of the software gets to be too much for you to handle, you can rely on their VIP technical support to help you out.
Once you become a member of ButterflyDownloadNetwork, you can start downloading DVD quality movies, TV shows, music videos and more right away. The service has cutting edge technology that makes downloading easier and faster than ever. In fact, you can get your files up to 300 times faster. If that doesn't impress you, nothing will. I highly recommend Butterfly Download Network to anyone who is tired of paying tons of money on renting and buying movies. Simply put, the service is awesome!

Butterfly Candle Holders

May 5th, 2009

Butterfly candle holders are easy to make and a great gift idea. The materials are very inexpensive, and you can use your imagination for a variety of designs. To get started, you will need:
Materials:
Small glass candle holders
Butterfly wrapping paper
Yellow tissue paper
Decoupage
Cuticle scissors
Small paintbrush
Damp paper towel
You can buy whatever glass candle holders you like (or use some you already have laying around). I bought mine at Walmart for about 0.59. You could also find them at thrift stores or yard sales.
I chose butterflies for my design, but you could choose whatever design you'd like--maybe keeping in mind the tastes of the person you're making them for. You can cut out pictures from anywhere, including calendars, greeting cards, magazines. Thin paper decoupages best.
After you have some pictures in mind, use cuticle scissors (the kind you cut your fingernails with) to cut out the pictures. These scissors work best on small pictures and cut rounder corners than regular scissors. If you're not going to use the pictures right away, store them in ziploc bags.
You can buy decoupage at any craft store. It is normally found with the glue. It allows you to permanently affix a picture to another object, giving the object an overall glossy effect. Make sure the glass you're working with is clean. Tear a piece of tissue paper into small (approx. 1 inch) pieces. Using the paint brush, brush some decoupage on to the back of one of the pieces of tissue paper. Position the tissue paper on the glass and then brush some more decoupage on top of it. Continue gluing on pieces of tissue paper, overlapping at the edges, until the entire candle holder is covered (including the bottom--set the candle holder on its top to dry). Brush one last coat of decoupage over the entire candle holder. Use damp paper towel to wipe off any excess decoupage.
After the decoupage has dried for about an hour (or more), position the butterflies (or other pictures) on top of the tissue paper. First brush some decoupage on the backs of the pictures and place them on the glass. Brush another coat of decoupage over the entire glass and set the candle holder on its top to dry again. After the decoupage has dried, add 2 or 3 more coats of decoupage after each coat has dried.
That's it! These candle holders are only limited by your imagination. Use different colors of tissue paper and a variety of pictures for different themes. You could make these with holiday themes, like for Christmas or Easter. They also make great birthday presents, hostess gifts, or party favors. They are very easy to make and you can make several of them at one time.

Building Wine Racks To Safely Store Your Wine

May 5th, 2009

Some people run the other direction when it comes to woodwork. Fortunately, when it comes to building wine racks, you don't have to feel so intimidated. This type of woodwork is probably one of the easiest jobs out there. You don't have to have any experience for building wine racks, but if you are good at woodwork, you can make additions on yours. If you are new to woodwork, building wine racks is a great place to start.
Steps to Building Wine Racks
If you have experience with woodwork, you could probably just jump right into the task without help. But for those who are new to woodwork, you may want to look into getting a build-your-own-wine-rack kit. When you buy one of these, all the main supplies are included. This makes things extremely simple and fool-proof. You basically follow the directions and place the correct pieces together. Once you've completed building the wine rack, you'll feel a lot more confident with woodwork and ready to take on more difficult projects.
If you have a little bit of experience with woodworking, you'll have more choices in making building wine racks. Start out with a set of plans. If you are experienced enough to make your own plans, great. If you aren't so lucky, you can find plans online for building wine racks.
Once you have your plans, you'll need to choose the wood you want for building wine racks. There are several types of wood to choose from. You can completely change the look of the wine rack depending on the wood you choose. They type of wood can also effect how strong the wine rack is, so I recommend researching a little on the types of wood to use. Although building wine racks without plans is more difficult and more time consuming, you can end up unique looks to the racks.
No matter how you end up building wine racks, whether from a kit or on your own, you can end up with a great look. This is a wonderful way to take care of your wine, while adding style to your wine cellar. Building wine racks by yourself you can save on money and it allows you to completely decide how it will look. And after all your hard work you'll have amazing wine racks to show for it.

Building The Perfect Home Theatre System

May 5th, 2009

Your wife finally said yes. After years of begging on your knees, buying flowers, and taking out the trash you are finally allowed to shop for a home theatre system. Know that you got the chance; do you know what is out there and how to go about buying A/V (audio and video) equipment? Most consumers see the rows of big screen televisions in their big lot stores. They stand there drooling only to find that don't understand what brand audio will go with the best brand of video. It is a logistic nightmare if you want to learn all the information about the product and then when you get home you don't know how to set it up.
That is why you should go to a local audio and visual event production professional. Most big lot stores have salesmen that have as much or even less knowledge about audio and visual equipment than you do. They know the electronic catch phrases like contrast and definition, but if you let them loose in your home to build it, you would find that you have bought inferior products and sound quality is way below the price you paid for it. Your audio and visual production professional is both the salesman and the installer. You will receive professional service at reasonable prices and at the same time receive quality in your purchase.
When you walk into a business that knows about the buying and selling of A/V equipment you will find that the salesman knows what he is talking about from the beginning of conversation. He or she will not ask you what you want; they will tell you what you need in accordance to the space you have and the purpose you want home theatre for. They may even schedule a trip to your home to measure the room it is going in and what kind of acoustics you have in that room. Once this is measured they will help you pick out one of the optical front projection screens that will give you the ultimate in viewing pleasure.
The screen will be the right size for the room and the angle will be set to be the viewing angle for the room and your furniture. You might even have to give your's and your family's height and where you sit so they can create the right angle for that perfect home theatre system experience. Next they will strategically place the audio equipment around your room to give you that authentic theatre sound. The bass, tenor, and tweak of each speaker will blend into a symphony of sound and excitement as you bring car chases, explosions, and music into your living space that will blow you away.
So don't depend on the unprofessional experience of a big lot electronic store to set up your home theatre system. Go to the professionals who set up live events such as concerts and business conferences. If they can set up a professional event that is seen by thousands think about what kind of home theatre system they can set up for you.

Building A Work Bench: How To Utilize Your Knew Found Wood Working Skills

May 5th, 2009

There a lot of people who are interested in amateur carpentry and wood curving. The most common site of activities for these people is the garage. But wherever they may have set up their workshop, the tools seem to pose a lot of problem when they clutter and occupy a considerable space. That is why it is very important to set up a work-bench which is organized and space-saving.
When a work bench is set up in a garage then it saves a lot of space. A work bench consists of an array of tools and instruments that help in curving the woods and create various items with their help. Although fully furnished work benches are easily available in the market, it is always very exciting to set up one's own and enjoy creating new things with them.
The article is an endeavor to guide you on how to make a robust work bench that would suit all your needs.
Ingredients required for a work bench are:
- A 16 feet long maple wood strip
- Wood planks of 2'/4' dimension.
- Sheets of hardboard to make drawer bottoms
- Pine boards
- Maple plywood of 8'/4' dimension and of 3/4 thicknesses.
- Screws
- Drilling machine
- Circular saw
- Screw driver
- Polyurethane glue and varnish
1. The maple wood plank should be attached to the wall studs first. A level can be used to ensure the proper positioning of the plank. The plank must be fitted about 3.5 feet above the ground with 2.5" screws. It should be always kept in mind that the garage is to house a car and so the work bench should not eat up a whole lot of space.
2. Next the shelf brackets should be fixed with the strip of wood using 1.5" screws. The uppermost bracket must be in level with the top of the upper strip. Another piece of plywood should then be fitted against the lower part of the bracket. Now the two strips of wood with rows of brackets, 2 feet away from each other make up a space saving set of shelves.
3. Now 2'/2' planks are to be cut out of the maple plywood. A plank should be fixed above the shelf bracket and the other should be screwed with the 2x4 strip of wood above. Next the other plank has to be attached as well.
5. Now another plank of wood measuring 18 feet has to be fixed with the shelf and attached to the studs with screws.
6. The plank has to be attached with glues and screws in such a way so that it is strong and hardy and can endure considerable pressure.
Wood work becomes much easy when it is done on a well placed work bench. It also saves much space and makes the work quite comfortable. But one should not be expected to build a perfect work bench at the first go. It is something that requires experience. A work bench with all its utility shows how hard work never fails.
